Why an LCD Display Matters in EV Load Management

When planning a home EV charger installation, many homeowners focus on the charger and the electrical panel. There is another useful question to ask: How can you see what your home’s electrical load is doing?

An EV energy management system (EVEMS) monitors the home’s electrical load and manages EV charging within the available capacity. The EVEMS ATC-202 includes an LCD display that makes continuous load monitoring visible at the device.

What does the LCD display add?

An EVEMS can do its job without drawing much attention. A display gives homeowners and electricians a way to check the load information shown by the unit. It can also be useful when confirming the installation or discussing how the system operates.

The LCD does not make the ATC-202 a phone-connected smart charger. Its value is simpler: the monitored load is visible on the device itself.

Could an EVEMS help you avoid a panel upgrade?

Adding an EV charger does not automatically mean you need a larger electrical service. Depending on the home’s existing loads, panel, charger and installation conditions, an electrician may be able to use an EVEMS to manage charging without a service upgrade.

The ATC-202 is designed for residential applications with 60A to 200A electrical services and supports 30A or 40A EV charger loads. An electrician must assess the home and select the appropriate installation.

Start with an electrical assessment

Before buying equipment, have a qualified electrician review your electrical service and the EV charger you plan to install. They can determine whether an EVEMS is suitable for your home and explain how charging will operate alongside other household loads.

With the ATC-202, you get EV load management and a built-in LCD display for continuous load monitoring—both in one device.
